ODYCEA is a French company specialized in the research and production of rare bioactive substances from marine, plant and mineral origin. We believe in taking inspiration from nature intelligence to reveal skin beauty. It results in the creation of exceptional active ingredients with proven efficacy for use in dermo-cosmetics field.
A family passion
The passion for nature, skin and environmental conscientiousness is part of our family’s DNA. With over 35 years of experience in life sciences, Xavier Briand brings his extensive operational experience as well as in-depth knowledge of natural bioactive substances and cosmetic industry. During his career, he held top management positions in Research Centre and International Group. Indeed, after his PhD in Plant Physiology and fine chemistry, he took part in the creation of an Algae Technical Research Centre and participated as expert of European Economic Community (EEC) in the valorization of seaweed for six years. Then, he joined an International Group to create the Biotechmarine company specialized in marine active ingredients. He is a pioneer in the creation of bio-inspired ingredients and has launched more than 60 innovations in the fields of skin and plant science.
From an early age, her daughter share the same passion for nature and skin. Growing up, she naturally multiplied experiences in the fields of cosmetics, luxury and international management. She graduated with a double master from Grenoble Business School (Master in Management and Master specialized in the Management of luxury brands, fashion and design). She had the chance to collaborate with International Groups such as LVMH (Dior), L'Oréal and Clarins. As a second generation of experts, she founded ODYCEA in 2014.
An exceptional site
Established in 2014, the company is located in Lannion Technopole on the picturesque north coast of Brittany (France).
This location gives ODYCEA access to a breathtaking prehistoric coastline and the oldest rock formations in France. This land of legends was formed 300 million years ago when ancient magma flowed to the surface. The huge pink granite rocks have been shaped by the power of the sea ever since. Just offshore, the Seven Islands form a wild archipelago which is one of the oldest nature reserves in France. A century of protection has meant that in this untouched paradise, an impressive biodiversity of plants and seaweed species flourishes and the islands have provided an idyllic heaven for grey seals and sea birds.
ODYCEA production laboratory (certified ISO 9001) prides itself on the development processes and technologies in the field of eco-extraction. We harness advanced Green Chemistry principles and use bio-based solvents to produce a wide range of high-quality plant based ingredients.
This unique approach means we can offer potent natural actives the majority of which are COSMOS certified and approved for use in China.
High performance & safety
In our search for the most active plant extracts ODYCEA works with a network of sustainable local harvesters and farmers to scour the exceptional ecosystems on our doorstep, seeking plants living in extreme environments. We then bring together the best experts in the fields of chemistry, biology and dermatology to investigate new mechanisms of action and new dermatological targets. All ODYCEA discoveries are validated by rigorous scientific experiments that pave the way for innovation by cosmetics laboratories. In our quest for new actives, safety is our top priority. ODYCEA products go through a rigorous assessment process including thorough toxicological testing to ensure product safety.
Traceability & quality
ODYCEA quality control laboratory adheres to ISO 9001 and thoroughly checks product characteristics throughout the process. We implement the highest standard of control procedures to guarantee the safety, efficacy and consistency of each production batch. We work closely with a number of carefully selected partners to ensure traceability of all our raw materials and finished products.
Organic, sustainable & ethical sourcing
At ODYCEA, we use our comprehensive understanding of plant species and their lifecycles to harvest seasonally and sustainably. Our harvesting techniques are adapted to each plant to ensure good natural regeneration or recolonization of any harvested area. We favor the use of organic algae and plants whenever possible and adhere to all national biodiversity laws, including the Nagoya Protocol. We adhere to strict ethical and solidarity practices for local harvesters, small farmers and cooperatives.
